Emilia Romagna and its Lidi
A few hours car drive from Germany, and a few steps away from the Garda Lake, you will find the “Lidi” (beaches) of the Emilia Romagna. The most famous location is for sure Rimini, known in Germany also as the “Teutonengrill” (the German grill). Beach and holiday resort in the economic boom, today it became mostly a secondary destination in Europe, and that’s a pity, because Rimini never lost its flair. My favourite destination however, is located in the Ravenna area, along the Adriatic Coast, in the so called “Lidi” and in the hinterland of the Romagna Region. In the gentle hills under the Apennine you are able to find the real Italy, among many medieval villages, ancient churches, trattorias and a fantastic nature. Ravenna, only 15 minutes from the sea, can be defined as a concentrate made of historical monuments, culture and Italian flair. The city, thanks to its wide pedestrian areas, allows you to discover and walk every day through its treasures. The “Lidi” of Ravenna have different faces like the trendy one of Milano Marittima or the typical summer resorts ones. All of this in a pleasant, quite and typical Italian atmosphere.
From now, I would like to bring you through some of the localities along the coast (I live in one of them ☺). We begin our journey in Cervia. This ancient fisher town is inhabited during all the year and in the Centuries always became bigger and bigger. The little streets of the historic town and its picturesque harbour infuse peace and harmony. Here everything is much more calm, quiet and ancient. Numerous little fish restaurants, where you will find fresh seafood from the local fish market, dot the “lungomare”. The infrastructures are modern, the beaches are wide and sandy…pure Italy! We leave Cervia and move on northbound to Milano Marittima, one of Italy’s trendiest summer destinations. Here it’s show time and the word “Milano” in its name speaks for itself. Every luxurious brand owns here a boutique, restaurants are exclusive and expensive, street bars are full of people and cool, beaches present every day a new fashion style and at night become the perfect location for a luxurious fish dinner. The most famous place of Milano Marittima is for sure the roundabout located in the heart of the city center, where from late afternoon you will be able to watch from the sofas of a café (espresso 2,50 € a glass) the fashion show of expensive cars and stars. Villa or Penthouse, here everything is really expensive and glamorous. Moving up again comes Lido di Savio, a little village on the sea. Mainly frequented by Italians during the summertime, in winter this place fells asleep. Prices are kind of the same of Milano Marittima, due to the fact that Lido di Savio lies really close to it. The same can be said of Lido di Classe, which you can reach crossing a little bridge. As Lido di Savio, Lido di Classe as well comes alive during summer time and the beach is easy to reach thanks to the wide footpaths along it. The ideal place for families.
Let’s move on to the next location. This time it takes longer because after Lido di Classe there is nothing! For 12 Km, you will find a natural reserve made of sand and pine forests, an ideal place for running and cycling. By car you have to drive around the reserve, and after 20 minutes you will reach Lido di Dante. Lido di Dante is very tiny and you will find no hotels there, but only a Camping and a lot of terraced houses. What makes Lido di Dante interesting is that it is really close to the reserve and its wide beach. In 2003 this beach was declared by Legambiente as one of the eleven most beautiful beaches in Italy. In this beach you will not find any constructions, bars or kiosks. For this reasons, if you want to spend a day on the beach here, you have to bring your own food bag, and (unusual for Italian costumes) you are also able to sunbathe naked here. Next stop of this journey is Lido Adriano. I really love this place and here you will find everything what you need (a Lidl as well) beautiful beaches and loads of real estates like sea view apartments and terraced houses with gardens. Because of the shape of this village (it stretches along the coast) every house has kind of a direct access to the beach. In addition, here you can find my favourite restaurant, where I come every time when I head back home. Hint: a little restaurant on the beach, and for “on the beach” I really mean on the beach! Looking from the window it seems like being in the middle of the sea. The food here is fantastic and low cost.
A few steps from Lido Adriano lies Punta Marina Terme. Populated all year long this town has got a thermal bath, restaurants, bars and shops. Here you will not find many hotels like in other towns of the Riviera, and driving or walking along the “lungomare” feels like magic. For many kilometres you will find the beach on the right and the pine forests on the left. Every now and then you will see a terraced house, where at night you can hear the sound of the sea. After driving for a while on this road, you reach Marina di Ravenna. It is the harbour of Ravenna and in the last years it changed its image: now you will find one of the most important yacht harbours of the Adriatic Sea. It is fascinating to see all this big Yachtes. The pedestrian area is big and you will find many shops, restaurants and bars. You can feel the maritime flavour in the air here. Marina di Ravenna is populated all year long and has got the best facilities. However, here everything is more expensive, like in Milano Marittima. To reach our next stop of this journey, Porto Corsini, you have to cross the harbour on a little ferry boat (less than 2 minutes). Porto Corsini is really small, and when you get off the ferry you can already see the road sign of Marina Romea. Marina Romea is located in the middle of a pine forest, and also in winter you can see green trees everywhere. Next stop is Casal Borsetti, a small fishing village where time seems to stand still. Here you will find a tiny harbour and a tiny fish restaurant. Nothing more and nothing less. The tiny fish restaurant is also one of my favourites (with sea view, of course). After Casal Borsetti you will find only kilometres of wide empty beaches, the delta of the river and the roads that will bring you to the hinterland. Here ends our journey along this part of the Coast, but in the hinterland as well you will be able to find the real essence of Italy, like in a bar overlooking the piazza or in a typical trattoria. A poche ore di macchina dalla Germania e a pochi passi dal lago di Garda si trovano i Lidi dell’Emilia Romagna. La meta più conosciuta è sicuramente Rimini, luogo di culto dei decenni passati, conosciuto in Germania anche come il “Teutonengrill” (la griglia dei teutoni). Spiaggia e destinazione turistica da sogno negli anni del miracolo economico, oggi è divenuta per lo più una meta secondaria, il che è un peccato, dato che Rimini conserva tutt’oggi il suo fascino. La mia meta preferita, tuttavia, si trova nel ravennate, lungo la costa, nei così detti “Lidi”, e nell’entroterra. Nelle dolci colline ai piedi dell’Appennino si trova l’Italia di una volta, con numerosi piccoli borghi medioevali, chiese antiche, trattorie e una natura fantastica. Ravenna, a soli 15 minuti dal mare, si può definire come un concentrato di monumenti storici, cultura e flair italiano. La città, grazie anche alle sue ampie aree pedonali, permette di andare ogni giorno alla scoperta dei suoi tesori. Anche i lidi ravennati offrono diverse sfaccettature: dalla mondana Milano Marittima, passando per alcuni centri abitati tutto l’anno, fino alla classica località estiva. Il tutto in un’atmosfera piacevole, tranquilla e tipicamente italiana.
Di seguito vorrei accompagnarvi alla scoperta di alcune località costiere, in una delle quali abito io ☺ Iniziamo il nostro viaggio a Cervia. Quest’antica cittadina di mare è abitata per tutto l’anno e nei secoli è cresciuta sempre di più. Le piccole vie del centro storico e il suo pittoresco molo infondono un che di pace e serenità. Qui è tutto un po’ più calmo, tranquillo e antico. Il lungomare è puntellato da tanti piccoli ristoranti di pesce, nei quali viene servito pesce fresco acquistato dal mercato locale. Le infrastrutture sono moderne, le spiagge ampie, Italia allo stato puro. Lasciamo Cervia e ci spostiamo di poco verso nord in quel di Milano Marittima, una delle località più mondane della Riviera. Qui è “showtime”, per dirla all’americana, e la parola “Milano” nel nome è tutta un programma. Ogni marchio di lusso qui ha una boutique, i ristoranti sono signorili e cari, i bar stra-frequentati e cool, le spiagge presentano ogni giorno nuove mode, e alla sera diventano la cornice ideale per una cena lussuosa di pesce. Il posto più frequentato è sicuramente la rotonda, situata nel cuore di Milano Marittima, dove dal tardo pomeriggio in poi, comodamente seduti sui divanetti fashion del bar (caffè a 2,50 €) si può osservare la sfilata delle auto di lusso. Villa o appartamento, qui tutto ha un prezzo esorbitante. Un po’ più in su si trova Lido di Savio, un piccolo paesino sul mare. Per lo più frequentato d’estate dagli italiani, mentre d’inverno se ne va in letargo. A livello di prezzi, data la vicinanza, si nota ancora l’influenza di Milano Marittima. Lo stesso vale anche per Lido di Classe, che si raggiunge attraversando un ponticello. Come Lido di Savio, anche Lido di Classe si popola, con i suoi alberghi e le sue piccole villette, durante la stagione estiva. La spiaggia è facilmente raggiungibile dagli ampi marciapiedi che si trovano lungo ad essa. È il luogo ideale per le famiglie con bambini. Avviamoci ora verso la prossima località. Questa volta ci vuole un po’ più di tempo per raggiungerla, dato che dopo Lido di Classe c’è il nulla! Per 12 Km, tra sabbia e pinete, si estende una zona protetta, vero e proprio paradiso per gli amanti della corsa a piedi o in bici.
In macchina bisogna aggirare il parco per poter, dopo circa 20 minuti, arrivare a Lido di Dante. Lido di Dante è molto piccolo e senza hotel. Vi si trovano solamente un campeggio e tante incantevoli villette. Che cosa rende Lido di Dante interessante? É la vicinanza che essa ha al parco (area protetta) con la sua lunga spiaggia deserta. Nel 2003 questa spiaggia è stata dichiarata da Legambiente una delle undici spiagge più belle d’Italia. In questa spiaggia libera non vi sono infrastrutture, bar o chioschetti. Quindi, se vi si vuole passare la giornata al mare, bisogna portare con sé una borsa frigo capiente. E, cosa rara in Italia, questa è una delle poche spiagge dove si può prendere il sole “come mamma ci ha fatti”. Il viaggio continua, e la prossima località che si incontra è Lido Adriano. A me piace questo posto, anche se qua e là si incappa in qualche abuso di cementificazione dei decenni passati. Inoltre, ha tutti i negozi di cui si ha bisogno (pure un Lidl), belle spiagge e molti tipi di immobili: dall’appartamento vista mare alla villetta con giardino. Dato che la località si espande lungo la costa, quasi ogni abitazione garantisce un facile accesso alla spiaggia. In più, qui si trova il mio locale preferito, dove vengo sempre quando torno a casa: un ristorantino sulla spiaggia, e con sulla spiaggia intendo veramente sulla spiaggia. Guardando dalla finestra sembra quasi di trovarsi veramente in mezzo al mare, e il cibo è ottimo e soprattutto a buon prezzo.
A poca distanza si raggiunge Punta Marina Terme. Abitata per tutto l’anno, questa località offre un centro termale, diversi ristoranti, bar e negozi. Qui non si trovano grandi “ammassi” di hotel. Guidare o passeggiare sul lungomare è veramente fantastico. Per molti chilometri da una parte si trova la spiaggia e dall’altra la pineta. Di tanto in tanto si può intravedere qualche villetta nascosta, dalla quale la notte si possono sentire i rumori del mare. Dopo aver guidato per un po’ su questa strada, si raggiunge Marina di Ravenna. Come si può capire dal nome, può essere definita il porto di Ravenna. Negli ultimi anni si è concessa qualche ritocco a livello d’immagine, e ora vi si trova uno dei porti turistici più importanti dell’Adriatico. È piacevole ammirare tutti questi grandi Yacht. L’area pedonale è lunga e offre negozi, ristoranti e bar. Il carattere marittimo qui si può veramente sentire sulla pelle. È abitata per tutto l’anno e dispone delle migliori infrastrutture. Tuttavia, i ristoranti qui tornano ad essere un po’ cari, rispetto a quelli citati prima. Per raggiungere la prossima meta bisogna attraversare il porto canale con il traghetto (la traversata dura poco meno di 2 minuti). Si giunge quindi a Porto Corsini, davvero un bel nome per una città, peccato che non c’è più che una casa e una chiesa. Non si fa in tempo a scendere dal traghetto che già s’intravede il cartello di Marina Romea. Marina Romea si trova in mezzo ad una pineta, e nonostante i colori grigi dell’inverno, il verde dei pini è una manna dal cielo per gli occhi e per l’animo. Questo luogo in inverno si addormenta, rimangono aperti solamente un ristorante e un bar.
La prossima fermata è Casal Borsetti, un piccolo paese di pescatori dove il tempo sembra essersi fermato, con un porticciolo e un ristorantino di pesce. Niente di più e niente di meno. Anche qui vi si trova uno dei miei ristoranti di pesce preferiti (naturalmente vista mare). Dopo Casal Borsetti s’incontrano ancora tanti chilometri di spiaggia libera, il delta del fiume e le strade che portano verso l’entroterra. Qui termina il nostro viaggio lungo questo pezzo di costa, ma anche l’entroterra merita più che una visita: un luogo dove si può trovare l’Italia vera e pura, che sia in un caffè in piazza che in una trattoria tipica.

Die Emilia Romagna und ihre „Lidi“
Oberhalb der Marken gelegen, ist die Emilia Romagna neben der Toskana und dem Gardasee sicherlich mit der am häufigsten bereiste Landstrich Italiens. Schon in wenigen Autostunden von Deutschland aus zu erreichen und nur noch einen „Katzensprung“ vom Gardasee weiter südlich findet man hier schnell erreichbare Sandstrände, die südlich genug sind, um eine ausgedehnte Bade- und Sommersaison zu gewährleisten. Vielen bekannt ist sicherlich Rimini, der „Kultort“ aus vergangenen Jahrzehnten, der irgendwann mit dem gar nicht hübschen Spitznamen „Teutonengrill“ quasi inflationär geworden ist. Einst noch Badeparadies und Urlaubsziel in den Jahren des Wirtschaftswunders, heute fast schon ein Urlaubsziel, dass man mehr hinter vorgehaltener Hand nennt. Was eigentlich schade ist, denn Rimini hat auch durchaus heute noch seine Reize.
Mein bevorzugtes Gebiet ist jedoch bei Ravenna, am Meer, an den sogenannten „Lidi“ und im Hinterland. In den sanften Hügeln, den Ausläufern des Apennin, findet sich ein ursprüngliches Italien, mit zahlreichen kleinen historischen Dörfern, alten Kirchen, Landgasthöfen und wundervoller Natur.
Ravenna, nur ca. 15 Minuten vom Meer entfernt, ist quasi ein Konzentrat von Sehenswürdigkeiten, Kultur und italienischem Ambiente. Die für italienische Verhältnisse große Stadt bietet mit weitläufigen Fußgängerzonen Stil und Raum für tagelange Erkundungen.
Die Lidi (= Strände) von Ravenna bieten vielfältigste Gesichter, vom mondänen Milano Marittima, über ganzjährig bewohnte Orte mit perfekter Infrastruktur, bis hin zum klassischen Sommerbad. Alles jedoch sehr ruhig, angenehm und typisch italienisch, ohne große Betonburgen und Bausünden.
Nachfolgend möchte ich mit euch ein paar der Orte direkt am Meer besuchen. In einem davon lebe ich selbst 
Wir beginnen unsere Reise in Cervia. Cervia ist ganzjährig bewohnt. Die historische Hafenstadt ist jedoch über die Jahrhunderte gewachsen. Die kleinen Gassen im Zentrum und die wunderbare Hafenmole strahlen Ruhe aus. Hier ist alles ein wenig ruhiger, gediegener, historischer. Die Lungomare ist geprägt von vielen kleinen Restaurants, in denen der fangfrische Fisch vom kleinen Fischmarkt des Ortes serviert wird. Die Infrastruktur ist hervorragend, die Strände weitläufig. Italien pur.
Wir verlassen Cervia in Richtung Norden und kommen in wenigen Minuten nach Milano Marittima. Milano Marittima, wohl einer der mondänsten Orte an der Adria. Hier ist „Showtime“ angesagt. Das „Milano“ im Namen ist Programm. Jedes Luxuslabel leistet sich hier eine Boutique, die Restaurants sind nobel und teuer, die Bars angesagt und cool, die Strände setzen tagsüber Trends und bieten abends den Rahmen für ein Fischessen der Extraklasse. Lieblingsplatz ist das Rondell in der Mitte des Orts, ein kleiner Palmengarten ziert den zentralen Kreisverkehr. Vom stylischen Loungingmöbel aus lässt sich beim Espresso (für 2,50 Euro der Schluck) am Spätnachmittag beobachten, welche Automarke und welcher Designer gerade angesagt ist. Ob Villa oder Penthouse, hier kostet alles exorbitant viel, Preise auf Weltstadtniveau.
Ein wenig weiter gelangen wir nach Lido di Savio. Ein kleiner Ort, direkt am Meer. Von den Italienern lediglich zur Sommerzeit genutzt, liegt der Ort außerhalb der Saison im Winterschlaf. Preislich merkt man jedoch auch hier immer noch die Nähe zu Milano Marittima. Das gilt auch für den nächsten Ort, der über eine kleine Brücke zu erreichen ist, Lido di Classe.
Lido di Classe, ein kleiner verträumter Badeort. Auch hier, nur während der Sommersaison aktiv, finden sich einige größere Hotels und viele kleine bezaubernde Häuschen. Wunderbar ist hier die schnelle Erreichbarkeit des Strandes, da eine Fußgängerzone genau am Strand vorbeiläuft. Ideal für Familien mit Kindern.
Fahren wir einen Ort weiter. Diesmal dauert es etwas länger. Denn nach Lido di Classe kommt erstmal: nichts! Circa 12 Kilometer Freistrand trennen uns vom nächsten Ort. Als Naturschutzpark grenzt direkt an den Strand ein Pininenhain, durchzogen von kleinen Wegen, ein Paradies für Läufer und Radfahrer. Mit dem Auto muss man diesen Park weiträumig umfahren, um nach ca. 20 Minuten in Lido di Dante anzukommen.
Lido di Dante ist winzig, ein Ort ohne Hotels. Nur ein Campingplatz und viele entzückende kleine „Villettas“ sind hier zu finden. Was Lido di Dante besonders interessant macht, ist die Nähe zum Naturschutzpark mit den langen einsamen Stränden. Im Jahr 2003 wurde der Strand von der Umweltschutzorganisation Legambiente zu einem der elf schönsten Stränden Italiens erklärt. An diesem „Freistarnd“ gibt es keinerlei Infrastruktur, keine Bar, keinen Kiosk. Man sollte also die Kühltasche dabei haben. Dafür kann man hier noch einen ganzen Tag wirklich allein am Strand verbringen. Und, selten in Italien, hier nutzen viele auch die Möglichkeit, ihre Sonnenbräune „nahtlos“ aufzufrischen.
Weiter geht die Reise in den Nachbarort, nach Lido Adriano. Ich mag diesen Ort, auch wenn hier ein paar Bausünden aus früheren Jahren stehen. Dennoch, der Ort ist relativ groß, hat alles an Geschäften, was man sich nur denken kann (sogar einen Lidl), schöne Strände und viele, viele Varianten von Immobilien, von der Wohnung mit Meerblick bis hin zur Villetta mit Garten. Da der Ort sehr lang gezogen ist, bietet fast jede Immobilie direkte Erreichbarkeit des Strandes. Außerdem gibt es hier mein Lieblingslokal, in das ich immer wieder gerne einkehre. Mein Geheimtipp: ein Restaurant direkt am Strand, und mit direkt meine ich wirklich direkt. Man greift vom Fenster aus quasi ins Meer, und das Essen ist preiswert und phänomenal zugleich.
Direkt im fließenden Übergang erreichen wir nun Punta Marina Therme. Ebenfalls ganzjährig bewohnt und dazu noch mit einem Thermalbad, vielen kleinen Restaurants, Bars und Geschäften. Hier gibt es keinerlei große Hotelklötze. Die Lungomare entlang zu fahren ist Genuss pur. Über mehrere Kilometer ist auf der einen Seite der Strand, auf der anderen Seite Pinienwälder, dazwischen immer wieder versteckt kleine Häuschen, in denen man nachts das Meer rauschen hört.
Fährt man lange genug diese Straße entlang, erreicht man Marina die Ravenna. Wie der Name sagt, haben wir hier quasi den Hafen Ravennas. Der Ort hat sich in den letzten Jahren fein gemacht. Es entstand einer der größten Sportboothäfen der Adria. Es macht Spass, die großen Yachten zu bewundern. Die Fußgängerzone ist lang und bietet Geschäfte, Restaurants und Bars. Der maritime Charakter ist hier deutlich zu spüren. Zudem ist der Ort ganzjährig bewohnt und verfügt daher auch über beste Infrastruktur. Allerdings sind die Restaurants preislich hier wieder deutlich teurer.
Weiter zum nächsten Ort wartet ein kleines Hindernis auf uns: die Fähre. Mit ihr überquert man in weniger als 2 Minuten den Hafenkanal, um nach Porto Corsini zu gelangen.
Porto Corsini, dieser Name klingt in meinen Ohren wundervoll. Leider besteht der Ort jedoch nur aus ein paar Häusern. Kaum hat man ihn erreicht, kommt schon das Ortsschild des nächsten Ortes: Marina Romea.
Marina Romea liegt eingebettet in einen Pinienhain, selbst in der kalten Jahreszeit findet sich hier viel Grün fürs Auge und fürs Gemüt. Der Ort ist ein reiner Saison-Ort. Viele haben hier eines der zahlreichen Ferienhäuser, die aber nur im Sommer genutzt werden. Im Winter liegt der Ort im Dornrößchenschlaf, dann hat nur ein kleines Restaurant und eine einzige Bar geöffnet. Immerhin, Marina Romea hat kaum Hotels, damit auch nicht die oft am Meer gefürchtete „Beton-Skyline“, stattdessen ist das Meer vom Ort durch einen Pinienpark getrennt.
Abschließend erreichen wir nach kurzer Fahrtzeit nun Casal Borsetti. Ein kleiner Ort, hier ist alles ganz ruhig, ganz wie früher, kleiner Hafen, kleines Fischrestaurant. Nicht mehr, aber auch nicht weniger. Auch hier ist eines meiner Lieblingsrestaurants, man ißt unvergleichlich – und dass mit Blick direkt aufs Meer.
Danach kommen erstmal wieder kilometerlange Freistrände, Flussdeltas und Straßen, die alle weg vom Meer führen. So beenden wir hier unsere kleine Küstenreise.
Immer auch einen Ausflug wert sind die nahe gelegenen Hügel der Emilia Romagna, in der man noch unberührtes Italien erlebt, ob beim caffè auf der Piazza oder in einem der traditionellen Landgasthäuser mit Spezialitäten aus der Region und dem Meer.
